Medical Fraud & Bigotry & Peter Bowditch

Posted by William P. O'Neill on May 15, 2000 at 15:00:43 (host130.ccrg.cust.cyberus.ca [209.195.93.130]):

I am the CEO of a medical practice in Ottawa, Canada. I employ qualified clinical and scientific professionals in both treatment and laboratory settings, and unforntunately, have for the better part of the past number of months, been the victim of the worst kind of medical fraud and hate, characterized by its' authour, a Peter Bowditch, of this group, as good healthy scepticism.

Bowditch, who maintains a website called the Millenium Project, is a self-appointed vigilante, who has gone to extreme lengths in inventing and manufacturing, and posting same on his site, communications in the form of emails and discussion group postings that he alledges have orginated from myself or someone in my group. None of these communications have originated from myself, anyone within my group, nor from the technical origins Bowditch has suggested within his web site.

Bowditch maintains that his appointment as sceptic, somehow, is his licence to conclude and comment without fact and evidence. He is quick to invent and engineer, at all cost, materials and comment that is fraudulent and false. He is, in fact, what he, and this group, alledges to detest – a charlatan, a fraud, a liar and a bigot!

209.195.93.130

I cannot understand why Mr O'Neill seems incapable of grasping the fact that he leaves footprints when he uses the Internet. This message came from a machine with the IP address 209.195.93.130. This address is part of a range allocated by the ISP Cyberus in Canada to one of their customers called "CCRG". The same address has appeared on messages coming through Hotmail (who record the originating IP address of every message), was used when trying to subscribe me to mailing lists at CNET, and appears in newsgroup messages archived at Deja.com. Mr O'Neill must think that people will believe that Microsoft, CNET and Deja are conspiring with me against him.

Peter "Psycho-Lunatic" Bowditch makes it to Hate Lists.

It seems Mr. Bowditch's hate-mongering from down under has not gone un- noticed. Despite the fact that Mr. Arseditch's missives were gifts from god himself, too many people are just plain pissed off with that "ranting ol' bloke from down under" to let it go.

Mr.Fobditch crossed the line with invention, fraud, and lies. He is now being seen for what he is – a hateful little bigot – an obsessive compulsive hateful little bigot!!! Although Mr. "ADD"Ditch has been warned by his ever shrinking circle of "friends" and "supporters", he can neither listen nor stop.

209.195.93.130

I like "Arseditch". That would look good on a t-shirt. I wonder where these "hate lists" are.

Although this wasn't addressed at me, I had to include it here. The newsgroup thread was about how "Andrew" had posted something somewhere under a false name. It was seen by all as slightly ironic that Mr O'Neill chose to use my name instead of his own when he passed comment on the matter. The Usenet acronym is "PKB".

i would be delighted!

my problem is this.......your list member bowditch..

bowditch has chosen to indiscrimately single out myself by wilfull misrepresentation, libel, and lies.....

bowditch languishes in his self-appointed vigilance and propagates hate and unfounded opinion and comment that is far beyond the bounds of healthy scepticism.....

perhaps his list colleagues might want to encourage bowditch to temper his comment and his site, and then healthy discussion may occur....

209.195.93.130

Mr O'Neill should learn the difference between a mailing list and a newsgroup. While membership of a mailing list may be controlled, anybody in the world with access to a news server carrying a particular newsgroup can participate. Web-based systems such as www.deja.com open access even further by allowing anyone with a web browser to interact with newsgroups.

Another addition to the Healthfraud Discussion List introduction page:

Posted by William P. O'Neill on May 18, 2000 at 14:19:10
(host130.ccrg.cust.cyberus.ca [209.195.93.130]):

A few days ago I posted an introduction of myself and my group. The reason for this introduction was simply that I felt compelled on the basis of a link to this site by one your list members, peter bowditch. Bowditch maintains a website, linked to this site. That web site maintains information, that Bowditch insists, has originated from myself or my group. The information has not originated from myself, my group, nor anyone in it. Bowditch has been advised of this. None the less, he has chosen to introduce myself and my group through a link from his site to this site. In other words, one of your list members has taken the intiative to "introduce" myself and my group to the list members of this group.

My posting concerning this matter has been deleted. In other words, this site has chosen to allow/permit unsolicited third party introductions that are invented and untrue, and by your actions indefensible. This site has chosen to sanction bigotry and condemn fact..

This site is a breeding ground for hate that is couched in vigilante fervour...................

209.195.93.130

The "introduction" that Mr O'Neill claims he posted to the Healthfraud discussion list introduction page is the message dated 15 May, 2000, above. I did not ask for the message to be removed from the site (but the site maintainer did pay me the courtesy of telling me about the message and its deletion). The purpose of the page is for members of that mailing list to introduce themselves to other members, and there is someone (not me) who maintains the page and regularly deletes any messages that are inappropriate. Mr O'Neill is not a member of the list (although he is quite welcome to join), and consequently anything he posts there will be deleted, regardless of its content.

Also, Mr O'Neill persists in saying that I am fabricating all these messages from him. He should speak to Cyberus Online Inc, who provide the permanent connection between his office and the Internet, and get someone there to explain the concept of Internet Protocol (IP) addressing to him.

On the Healthfraud discussion list introduction page again:

Posted by William O'Neill on May 26, 2000 at 12:33:59 (host130.ccrg.cust.cyberus.ca [209.195.93.130]):

I was not surprised to see, that again, my introduction was deleted from this list. One of your list members, bowditch, continues to introduce myself and my group in this list by a meta tag to this list. His introduction is willfully and knowingly false, engineered, fabricated and invented, and continues.

My first introduction to this list was for the purpose of setting the record straight. It was deleted. My second introduction was to complain regarding the deletion. This, the third "introduction", is my notice that I will continue to post to this list until such time that my first "introduction" is restored and/or you have bowditch remove all meta tags bewteen this site, his site and my group's site.

209.195.93.130

Mr O'Neill seems incapable of understanding that the web page at http://www.hcrc.org/wwwboard/wwwboard.shtml is not a mailing list. It is a place for members of a mailing list to tell other members about themselves. It states this quite clearly on the page. The only reason I have links from The Millenium Project site to that page is to provide a context when I quote what Mr O'Neill has posted there, and I will not remove those links unless asked to do so by the owners of the HCRC site. In any case, there is nothing about Mr O'Neill or his organisation there because his messages have been removed and will continue to be removed while ever he posts inappropriate messages there. His messages will, of course, still be published here whether or not the owners of the introduction page decide to delete them from their site.

The "first introduction" Mr O'Neill mentions is the message reproduced above and dated 15 May, 2000. This was deleted from the Healthfraud introduction page because the owners of that site thought that it was defamatory. They have a perfect right to protect themselves from potential legal action.

<snip message from me stating the Millenium Project policy for publishing email>

Mr. Bowditch fancies himself as a vigilante gatekeeper of inventive fact, fiction, policy, ethics and law. The plain and simple fact of the matter is that he will publish, invent, and libel to suit his cause. He alledges that e-mails he has posted on his site have been authoured by myself or someone in my group. He further suggests that this is proven fact. What Mr. Bowditch fails to grasp is that there is fairness in process. In other words, before publishing the alledged e-mails, he might have given me the courtesy of review and confirmation of whether the e-mails were in fact from myself or someone within my group. But Mr. Bowditch has assumed the role of judge, jury, and executioner, all under his own creative terms and conditions, in the name of "healthy scepticism".

Mr. Bowditch purveys an unhealthy view of the world, by allowing his intemperant and intolerant "insights" to conclude opinion and represent "fact" in a wreckless and scandolous fashion. His intent is not to share scepticism or engage discussion; it is to intentionally harm, misrepresent, libel, lie, and invade, for sole purpose of forcing his views upon others.

Mr Bowditch presently has the freedom of an unregulated web, that, thankfully, is closing in on him. More importantly, however, is the fact that he has revealed himself for what he is: a nasty hateful little man.

209.195.93.130

I assume by "official visits" Mr O'Neill means that someone with some form of identification came to see me. The only such people to visit either my house or my office in the last month have been a man from the water utility people (who came around to tell me that the water would be off for an hour or so while they fixed a pipe in the street) and two young people collecting money for the Salvation Army's annual appeal.

June 6, 2000.

To Mr. Bowditch & List Members:

For the past number of months, we have been monitoring news groups such as Deja.com. The reason for our monitoring was in response to reports that various groups and/or individuals were representing themselves as either proponents of the Canadian Cancer Research Group, or its' agents, or critics, such as a Mr. Peter Bowditch.

We have further reviewed the postings of Mr. Bowditch on this service and on his own web site, the Millenium Project. Content, in both instances, suggest communication has occurred between the Candian Cancer Research Group, its' agents and Mr. Bowditch. Such communication has never occurred.

We have referred all matters to the appropriate authorities for action, and request, in the fisrt instance that Mr. Bowditch either suspend publication of the materials on his site concerning the matters in question, and offer his assistance in determining the source and object of these materials, or continue publication and find himself the subject of investigation and action.

We look forward to receiving any information that might assist us in resolving this matter. Please feel free to email us @ info@ccrg.com or telephoning our offices at the below-mentioned number.

Chief Executive Officer

I have continually provided "assistance in determining the source ... of these materials". That is why I include the originating IP address with every message I publish here, plus links to an independent archive where available. I can't see how I can be more helpful than that.

And one last thing … (4/5/2013)
I hoped it wasn't someone playing a cruel April Fool's joke when I saw this news in the Ottawa Citizen on April 1.

Yes, folks, the beloved William P O'Neill of the Canadian Cancer Research Group and its descendants has gone to the great cesspit in the sky, taking the Gutless Anonymous Liar with him. Sadly, he died quickly and not of cancer. I posted a message to his memorial guest book, but unfortunately some technical glitch prevented it from being published.

I will maintain my own memorial to him here by archiving his correspondence with me and also the wonderful messages he sent wearing his Gutless Anonymous Liar mask. It would be a tragedy for this valuable collection of literature to disappear.
